Dongge Ali, also known as Eurycoma longifolia, is a plant that is widely used in traditional medicine in Southeast Asia. While the whole plant can be utilized medicinally, the root is the primary source of its therapeutic benefits. Its extract boasts numerous effects, including enhancing physical strength, reducing fatigue, and sterilization, earning it the distinction of being one of the most valuable plant medicines in Southeast Asia. Alongside bird’s nest and tinware, it is considered one of Malaysia’s three national treasures.
Modern pharmacological research has revealed that the primary chemical components of Dongge Ali are quassin diterpenoids and alkaloids. Its extract exhibits various pharmacological effects, including improving male sexual function, anti-cancer and anti-malarial properties, lowering blood sugar and blood pressure, reducing blood uric acid levels in hyperuricemia model rats, and alleviating pathological damage to kidney tissue. Specifically, the improvement in male sexual function has garnered significant attention from the scientific community.
International pharmaceutical experts believe that Dongge Ali is one of the natural plant resources with the most promising anti-ED (erectile dysfunction) effects discovered thus far, surpassing even the efficacy of yohimbine. Many plant-based health products in the United States and Europe also contain Dongge Ali ingredients, testament to its widespread recognition and application.
